HEY SO it's been a little while huh. today i saw something that bothered me that no one else will care about it so i'm going to briefly talk about it here where i have more space than twitter.com

i saw a post on anilist today. it is above. i do not like this post.

i suppose i could see how the atmosphere of something could get in the way of enjoying it. sure. fine. whatever. i think that's PUSSY SHIT but i'll accept that. however, i think for the two series that this deleted acccount is talking about they're just missing the point. evangelion (and they are specifically talking about the original here, i believe) relies on depicting awful things and awful interpersonal relationships because that actively furthers its message. nothing good awaits those people and that's the point. evangelion is not something that is meant to be optimistic. it's a series that eats human sin for breakfast so i really don't think they were trying to create any positive feelings. i truly wonder if this person watched end of evangelion because that sure was not trying to make the audience feel positive. that's partially why it's really good.

but where i mainly take issue with this post is with texhnolyze. the point of texhnolyze is optimism IN SPITE OF THE MOST AWFUL SHIT YOU'VE EVER SEEN. i really don't want to spoil this series here but just generally, texhnolyze depicts a dying world and makes you feel like shit the entire time but is about living to the fullest anyway. i feel like a lot of people missed this when watching it and i actually see that this show is more divisive than it should be. it's really weird because this is the kinda shit that should be up this website's users' alley. i think what turns people off of texhnolyze is that they DO NOT pull their punches. from what i've been reading, i don't think people were ready for it. i CERTAINLY was not. every time i listen to the ED now i'm hit with a wave of melancholy at remembering it. but the fact that people walk away from the experience not understanding that this show is, at its core, optimistic (in the worst way) is probably why people don't rate it as highly as it deserves. if you're not paying attention, it can feel really unsatisfying, but if you know what to look for, you'll find what they're trying to say.

anyway that's all sorry for ranting about some post from four years ago. this also doesn't make sense if you haven't watched the two shows (you should) so sorry. -lego jujutsu kaisen
