hey guys. so it's been a little while since i last updated the lego jujutsu blog. sorry about that, i haven't had anything to talk about for a litle while. i also deleted my x,the everything app: blaze your glory! account because fuck that shit, so this is now the only official source of sweet lego jujutsu content.
a while ago, i made a cool twitter thread about my top things from various categories for the year. i had a lot of fun making that thread, so i'm going to start doing one of those every month to show my appreciation for the cool things i've watched/read/etc. each month. so now, let's start with january!
anime of the month

i was not expecting to give this award to an isekai, especially not one i watched on a whim for no other reason at the very end of the month. however, Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 2nd Season (henceforth tsukimichi) surprised me by being a wonderful combination of funny, original, exciting, and high-quality. in fact, tsukimichi season 2 was so much better than season 1 that i rated it an 8.5 whereas the first season got a 7. j.c. staff taking over as the studio was awesome, especially considering the shocking lack of CGI throughout. when there was CGI, it was legitimately done so well i couldn't always tell. i don't know why this show that no one has watched got so much love, but i'm so happy it has. they've already announced a season 3, too, which is really awesome.
probably the main thing i love about this show is that it is very clearly parodying many common isekai tropes while keeping its core very original. i've never seen an isekai that focuses on teaching and stuff like that, which was also really neat. the obvious comparison to make here is to Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (henceforth the eminence in shadow). while i do like tsukimichi's parody, nothing comes close to eminence's masterful use of it throughout. tsukimichi fails to reach those heights because it is interested in developing its main characters, which eminence takes a strong stance against literally ever doing (to its benefit).
it should be mentioned that i did also watch Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo Season 2 in January, which honestly probably would have taken it if not for that. i did also watch parasyte but i didn't like how that ended a whole lot.
manga of the month

did i say manga of the month? i actually meant manhwa of the month! i generally don't read a whole lot, so i might not include this section every month, but i had to this month to highlight Sinui Tap (henceforth tower of god).
tower of god is very reminiscent of various battle shounen and the like, but i think it does it better than basically any battle shounen i've watched or read. for me, it's easiest to compare this to Jujutsu Kaisen since both of these have somewhat similar power systems and focus around honing one's skills while dealing with unfolding conflict and conspiracy. tower of god simply does it better than jjk on every measure. the world is more fleshed out and interesting, the characters are written better, the power scaling is gradual and makes sense, the art is good, etc. i could go on for a while longer.
i think one of the main things i love about tower of god is that it really takes its time with each arc. it's not afraid to spend the time it needs in each location to build the tension and set things in motion, and it rarely, if ever, feels like there are ass-pulls. jjk is ridden with pacing issues and a lack of establishment for some of its major plot moments, especially towards the end. meanwhile, i'm 400-ish chapters into tower of god, which has been releasing steadily since 2010, and it's still building on things from very early on with great success.
the other thing that is really cool about tower of god is how much time it spends developing each character. the main character, bam, is far from the only interesting character, and even side characters get the same treatment of good writing. there are a few supporting members of the cast that i think i know more about than some of the main cast, and i think that's okay because they're also not afraid to keep things a mystery for a long time. and unlike jjk, those reveals are not all at the very end.
all in all, i've had a wonderful time with the first two seasons of tower of god and i'm excited to catch up to the current chapter in season 3.
video game of the month

almost every day in january, i wound down from work by playing a little bit of Crazy Taxi for the sega dreamcast. despite only having two maps with fixed npcs to pick up, it is still fun to play after the actual hours i have spent in it. the music is awesome and the controls feel great. i really like playing arcade mode and trying to go for as long as i can. i don't play video games as much as i used to (outside of Risk of Rain 2), so it's nice to have a game i can just sit down and play without feeling obligated to do it for a long time.
final thoughts
i don't really have anything else that i want to mention here this month. these monthly reviews are just going to depend on what i watch throughout the month and should hopefully set up nice for a good year in review at the end of 2025. one thing i noticed this month is that it's been forever since i felt like something was a 9/10 or a 9.5/10. i watched a whole lot of mediocre nonsense from last season at the beginning of the month (which sucked) and i've been striving to watch something i feel is truly great. tower of god is definitely going to make it to 9/10 at least, but i'm not going to give it a rating until i catch up.
that's all for right now, folks. i'm planning on posting a bit more frequently since i have some other things i want to talk about. -lego jujutsu kaisen
